Palmer Family

PALMER

John Palmer was the second son of William Palmer of Beesby and Anne his wife. William Palmer was buried at Beesby 9 March 1606 , and Anne Palmer wid. at Saleby 28 Jan. 1615-16 , aged 63 .

John Palmer yeoman of Saleby made his will 9 Septr. 1643 - "To the poor of Saleby 20s , to my son Edward £100 and the third part of my linnings, to my daughter Mary £ 100 and the best bed in the chamber furnished , with the third part of lininge, to my cousin William Thew 10s, to my cousin Fawne and cousin Mary Smith 10s, to my brother and sister Pigott 10s, to my brother and sister Filkins 10s, to every one of my servants 5s , my son William Palmer to be executor and to have all the rest of my goods and chattels not bequeathed, brother Filkins to be supervisor.” #1

Mr. John Palmer was assessed at 4s 8d in 1621, and on 142 acres in 1630. He was buried at Saleby 14 Dec. 1643, and his wife Frances 19 Jan. 1639. They had three children baptized at Saleby – Edward 29 June 1615, William 7 Novr. 1620, and Mary 9 March 1623.

William Palmer succeeded his father at Saleby, occupying the old parsonage house and land now owned by Mr. Palethorpe. He married at Withern, 9 Septr. 1647, “Mrs. Anne Newcom” daughter of Thomas Newcomen of Withern. Mr. Wm. Palmer was assessed at his 11s 9d in 1646, and occupied 102 acres in 1649. He had issue three children - Mary bap. at Saleby 1 Sept. 1648, John bap. 29 Jan. 1649-50, and Newcomen.

John Palmer the elder son took Holy Orders. He was ordained priest by William bishop of Lincoln on Trinity Sunday 1673, and was presented to the rectories of Addlethorpe and Ingoldmels in 1680.#2 He was buried at Addlethorpe 4 June 1722, and his wife Elizabeth 2 Novr. 1719. They left an only son John, and a daughter Mary.

Newcomen second son of William Palmer was apothecary at Burgh, and died without issue in 1720.

John Palmer only son of John and Elizabeth was also in Holy Orders. He was a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, D.D., and rector of Appleton co. Berk., where he was buried, 13 June 1735.#3

Edward Palmer elder son of John Palmer of Saleby and Frances his wife took Holy Orders, and was presented to the vicarage of Saleby 16 Septr. 1643, the patron being George Justice. In 1649 he resigned for the vicarage of Bilsby. He married at Withern, 25
Septr. 1645, Troth another daughter of Thomas Newcomen, and had issue Rachel bapt. at Saleby 3 Sept. 1646, Edward bapt. 14 March 1647-8, and Anne. Mr. Edw. Palmer was assessed at 4d in 1646, and Mr. Pallmer of Billesby at 1s 3d in 1651.
