UK Distribution of the TRIBE Name

The data to build these maps came from the IGI database for the years up to 1841, with the data lumped into 50 year blocks.

After 1800 the data was taken from the censuses and includes mistranscriptions confirmed as TRIBE.

Analysis

These maps confirm Sussex as the main source of the TRIBE name in the UK, with some early occurrences in Hampshire & Surrey, principally within the Western Weald (see Villages Map). Towards the end of the late 19th Century migration towards London dominated the surname distribution.
